Obituary

Gerald L. Human slipped away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on November 12, 2021. He was born November 16, 1935 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Nona (Ash) and Lones Human. His early years were spent on their family farm before they moved into Stillwater to be closer to his Dads dairy business. He attended Stillwater public schools all 12 years. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Naval Reserves for 8 years. Gerald finished high school a semester early and headed to Bethany, Oklahoma to attend Bethany Peniel College, now Southern Nazarene University. He had always enjoyed music, including playing the trumpet, but singing in a college quartet really started his church music career. College President, Dr. Roy Cantrell, invited the quartet to travel with him on weekends to churches across the educational zone to raise money for the college. Gerald had a great time in college, but, most importantly, thats where he met a Kansas girl named Alfreda KotwitzFreda for short. They were married June 3, 1955 and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. They spent many years traveling together across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Gerald spent his professional career in sales and marketingeverything from shoes, to building materials, to lettuce and grapefruit. He retired from Sunkist Growers after a 25-year career in citrus sales. Gerald was a natural-born salesman. He could meet people, connect with them, and get to know them with his winsome personality. When you met Gerald Human, you met a friend: not just a friend for the moment, but someone who cared about you and was interested in what was going on in your life. Geralds hobbies included fishing, golfing, and watching sportsparticularly basketball and football. He was a loyal OSU and Dallas Cowboys fan. He sang with the Silver Chords senior adult choir in Yukon for many years. The Church of the Nazarene was a part of the fabric of Geralds life. He didnt just attendhe was "all in" when it came to service to the church. He led choir and congregational music at five different churches over the years. Some of his other roles included being a board member, serving as a greeter, tending the plants in the atrium, and helping Freda with Sunday School class social events. One of his greatest gifts was making newcomers feel welcome and accepted. He was already shaking their hands while saying his opening line, "Hi, Im Gerald Human." He was preceded in death by his parents, Nona and Lones Human, and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Lewis Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Freda; his son, Brent; and his daughter and her husband, Pam and R.B. Broyles; his grandson, Jason; and his granddaughter, Abby. The family thanks the caregivers of Crossroads Hospice and St. Anns Skilled Nursing for their kindness and compassion over the last few months of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Walt Crow Pastoral Retreat Center at Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene. . There are no gallery images.
