Georgia Anne Golden Pitts was born July 9, 1940 to Oralee and Bill Golden in Oklahoma City, OK.
She passed away in her home on February 5, 2020.
Georgia grew up in Oklahoma City/Warr Acres enjoying her dogs and horses, the outdoors, playing the piano and being creative. She was an accomplished young pianist, a 3 gated pleasure saddle rider for Nichols Hills Stables and could climb a tree higher than anyone else dared!
She loved being part of the Girl Scouts, especially when she met and became lifelong friends with Ruth Booton who became like a second mother for over 70 years. They remained in contact and close, up until the day Georgia passed.
As she entered teen years, she would rather take a long drive in her jeep or ride her horse, Lady, than be involved at any school function.
Georgia graduated from Putnam City Original in 1958, worked at Bethany Children's Hospital until attending OU.
She continued her love of scouting and became a Girl Scout leader where she met Jimmy Pitts, a local Boy Scout leader whom she would marry on Dec. 21, 1962. The 2 moved to California where Jim was stationed with the Air Force until moving back to Oklahoma City in 1964, just in time to give birth to their 1st daughter, Glynis. Jim and Georgia then moved their family to Dallas, Texas where they met numerous lifelong friends like Nita and Paul Alley who Georgia treasured until her dying day, talking and writing letters back and forth. They welcomed their 2nd daughter, Jenny, in 1968. They enjoyed being active in any and all functions at the Presbyterian Church and being members of the Diamond Jubilee Square Dance Group. The family later moved to Farmersville, Blue Ridge and then back to Farmersville where they also made lifelong friends and remained until Jim and Georgia divorced in 1980. Georgia and the girls moved to Oklahoma City where she began life as a single mother with the help of her mother, Oralee and sister, Meg. She began her working career at Booton's Nursery, American Cleaners and Laundry, Oklahoma City University, where she simultaneously graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in creative writing. She finished her professional path as a weekend manager at the Ronald McDonald House where she loved being available to families whose children were battling serious illness, and working at Hertz Reservation Center where she retired from but gained a group of Sister Friends that were called the IHOP Ladies who would enjoy traveling, birthday get-togethers, and of course breakfast.
Georgia loved to read, write in her journals, stay very versed and educated in the Bible including participating and leading various bible studies to really dig into the word without being rigid and religious! She was selfless in helping others, donating her time in elementary schools, providing art supplies, and having splurges for the grandkids. She, above all, was the best cheerleader, partner in crime, teacher of the art of driving a stick shift, and believing that each of her grandkids could do no wrong! Traveling to events, attending whatever each of them was involved in and being available with visits, fun confetti-filled cards and clever nick names was what she truly loved to do for each of them.
Big A. Little A, Beemo, Emmers, Lita Loo, Mr. Bijay and most recently CoCo were all big buddies that would share sarcasm, love, tears, an occasional curse word but mostly just her being so proud of them! It broke her heart when her daughter, Glynis, passed in 2016 after battling cancer; then watched her daughter, Jenny, battle cancer in 2018 and then her devoted son-in-law, Michael, take on his own battle with cancer in 2019. We stayed diligent in prayer, support of each other and kept finding joy and laughter in the parts of life that we could control. Weekly, Jenny and Michael, along with her loving caregivers, family and friends, would visit to make sure she could remain in her home, safe and taken care of as she wished, with her 2 kitty cats. Life is a labor of love, devotion, selflessness and a whole lot of trusting the Lord each and every day!
As Georgia would say........see ya later gator, after awhile crocodile, peace out, and to Michael, V for Victory!
