GEORGIA ARLEENE JARRETT
Georgia Arleene Jarrett, age 97, of Yukon, Oklahoma, died November 2, 2020 in Yukon. She was one of seven children born to Russell and Blanche Erwin in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 27, 1923. Georgia graduated from Salem Center High School in Steuben County, Indiana in 1941. She married Thomas Austin Jarrett on September 14, 1946. Soon after, they moved to Arizona where they lived for most of the next 37 years before relocating to Oklahoma to be near their children and grandchildren in 1983.
Georgias first love was her family and home but for a number of years she also worked as a baker in the school cafeteria in the Phoenix, Arizona school system. Later she was a nurses aide at Yavapai Community Hospital in Prescott, Arizona until her retirement in 1970.
Mom loved to cook, bake, sew and garden. As much as she loved Arizona, she always missed the green and the trees of her native Indiana and successfully took on the challenge of growing flowers in the desert!
She grew up learning the value of hard work and an enduring spirit which served her well in her decades-long battle with multiple sclerosis as it ravaged her body. We all stood back in amazement at her will to live and enjoy life under the most difficult circumstances.
Mom was a quiet woman (unless you knew her well!) who lived a quiet life of simplicity and faith. She and Dad came to faith in Christ on the same Sunday morning some 65 years ago. Together they modeled to their sons and all who knew them what a sincere follower of Christ looks like. We are happy she is with Jesus and dad now, but we will miss her!
Georgia is survived by her sons, Tom Jarrett and wife Cathie, Ron Jarrett and wife Karen; 6 grandchildren, Nathan, Micah, Josiah and wife Rose, David, Rachel, and Greg; one great-grandchild, Madelyn and her mother Kenzi Long; brothers, Charles Erwin, Gene Erwin and wife Sharon; and sister, Phyllis Lytle.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Jarrett, who died in 1991; parents, Russell and Blanche Erwin; brothers, Lyle Erwin, and Stanley Erwin; and sister, Virginia Witte.
There will be a private family burial at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00am, Saturday November 7, at Covenant Community Church, 2250 Yukon Parkway, Yukon, OK.
