George I. Lunsford was born March 4, 1937 in Oklahoma City to James A. and Nola L. (McGinnis) Lunsford. He graduated from Choctaw High School in 1955 and married Priscilla Dean Averitte on June 23, 1958. He worked for 20 years at Safeway Grocery, and over 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service (for a while doing both), and after retirement was a courier for Capital Abstract for 10 years. He was a loving husband and a great father, and was a Camp Fire "Do Dad", spending many an hour chauffeuring his daughters to sell Camp Fire candy and helping with camp improvements. Dean and George were "Mommy and Daddy No. 2" to many of their daughters friends, who still keep in touch 50 years later. He was a long-time member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and through the years served in many capacities including deacon, elder, and Chairman of the Board. He joined Western Oaks Christian Church in 2008 and served on the property committee. He was a quiet man with a keen sense of humor. He was slow to anger, and quick to volunteer. When he saw a job needed doing, he did it without desiring recognition. When he was not fixing the plumbing at church or doing yard work, you could usually find him with his nose buried in a book or leaning over his latest jigsaw puzzle.
He is survived by his wife, Dean; daughters, Lisa Lunsford and Donna Nevel; grandson, Seth Nevel and wife Laura; and his sister, Dorthy M. Gaines. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James W. Lunsford; sister, Martha J. Lenington; and son-in-law, Jeffrey M. Nevel.
