Obituary

George Henry Faulk, Jr. Oklahoma City - April 2, 1930 February 26, 2021 George Henry Faulk, Jr. was born April 2, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama to George Henry Faulk and Irma Margaret Gerhardt in a home on Dauphin Street, delivered by Doctor Dowling and a German midwife, Mrs. Schwietendeck. George almost reached 91 years old, and he and Carol nearly reached 60 years of marriage. Both great milestones in his opinion. Carol was his lifelong companion whom he loved dearly and who kept life from being boring, and gave so much in fascination and love. He frequently told people that his greatest accomplishment were his children - his daughter, Delia, who brought him incredible joy, pride and love. John, his firstborn who was so smart and determined, and Colby, the middle child who was always full of surprises. They all made him proud in so many ways, and he said that 'they taught him much more about life and love than he taught them.' In addition to being a devoted father and a proud 'Opa', he had many personal achievements of his own in his 90 years. George was an Ordained Minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and was with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in many capacities for more than 25 years, retiring as a Branch Manager in the Flight Standards Division in 2000. He achieved over 15,000 flying hours and enjoyed glider flying and rating International Gilder Pilots. George greatly valued education and worked tirelessly to put himself through school throughout his life. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama and attended Murphy High School (Mobile, Alabama), followed by Johnson Bible College (Knoxville, TN), Butler University and Christian Theological University (Indianapolis, IN), University of Alabama Graduate Education Extension, Parks Air College and the FAA Academy. He proudly made certain that his daughter, Delia, graduated from Texas Christian University (1998) debt-free. After the sudden deaths of his two sons in 1978 and 1979, John Elijah Faulk (15 years old), and Colby Hewitt Faulk (12 years old) just 7 months apart, he and Carol were very active in The Compassionate Friends (a support group for bereaved parents), both locally and nationally, serving on the National Board of Directors for six years. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Church - First Christian Church for 20+ years, and most recently, New Covenant Christian Church. George could often be found leading a poignant Communion prayer, Sunday school lesson, or church devotional. A true 'Renaissance man', as a friend described him and one of his greatest compliments, George was well versed in Latin, German and more historical facts and trivia than anyone could imagine. He spent countless hours reading, studying Jungian psychology, along with spending time and creating friendships at the Benedictine Monastery. He was a Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and Knights Templar. Other areas of interest were the German American Heritage Foundation and Oklahoma Writer's Federation. Surviving family members are his devoted wife, Carol Bockler Faulk, and daughter Delia Elizabeth Guy Faulk McLinden, her husband Scott McLinden, and grandson Sawyer John McLinden of Frisco, Texas. In lieu of flowers, George would be honored to have his life and legacy commemorated with donations to his beloved New Covenant Christian Church (Oklahoma City), or his daughter's 501c3 non-profit organization and passion, Archangel Animal Network, that he loved to brag about 'how many dogs she saves' by sending them on rescue transports from the South to the North. A memorial service to celebrate the life of George Faulk will be held on Friday, March 5th at 2 pm at New Covenant Christian Church in Oklahoma City. .
