Obituary

George J. Dixon, was born December 20, 1925 in Delaware, AR. to George Henry and Carrie Faye (Farnam) Dixon. George died quickly and peaceably on December 28, 2017 at the age of 92. George married Sarah B. Slonecker on April 15, 1960 adding two daughters to his two sons. George graduated 3rd in class, from Paris High School in Paris, AR. He then moved to OKC where he took his first job as a salesman for Carpenter Paper Co, where he worked for 15 years. Upon leaving there he worked part-time for Farmers Insurance Co. and as a driver for handicapped children for the Oklahoma City Schools, all while attending University of Central Oklahoma (then called Central State College). Graduating from UCO with honors and three degrees. He took a full-time job with the City of Oklahoma City Police Department as a Park & Lake Ranger during his junior year at UCO and worked there 25+ years until retirement reaching the rank of Sgt. Retirement brought traveling around the US in a RV for nine and a half years. When that ended they settled in Muskogee, OK for 11 years. When health issues started they moved to OKC in 2009 to be closer to the daughters where he resided at Forest Glade Retirement Center. After his marriage George became an avid tennis player. After his retirement he added walking and riding his bicycle many, many miles a day. George was a life-long reader and the libraries knew him well. He read his Bible all through the day and read through the Bible many times and in many translations and until his eye sight gave out. George is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Dick Dixon of AR. He is survived by brother, Roy Dixon of NC; his four children, Lester Leon and Lonnie Dale Dixon of WI, Sarah Arlene Slonecker Smith, and Vickie Lynn Slonecker Dixon Drake of OK, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
