George William Cotton, age 81, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011. He was born July 8, 1929 to Guy Archibald Cotton and Ethel Cecil Reed Cotton in Meeker, OK, and spent his formative years in his beloved hometown. He graduated From Meeker HS in 1947, and began working for OG&E at Horseshoe Lake Power Plant. In 1951, he went into the 28th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and served in Occupied Germany. Upon discharge, he returned to work for OG&E at the Mustang Power Plant and continued there until his retirement in 1987 as the Station Operating Supervisor. He married Joan Cavell Craft on February 1, 1953, and made their home in Oklahoma City. During this 58 year union, they were blessed with two sons, three granddaughters and one great-grandson. George was a master gardener, and had a green thumb extraordinaire. He so enjoyed tending his gardens and, in every season, they were a sight to behold. He was also a life-long coin collector, and shared this hobby with his sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, William Henry and Laura Bell Reed; an aunt, Lettie Armstrong; an uncle, Otis Birl Doc Reed and wife, Sarah, all of Meeker; and brother-in-law, G.D. Mac Maguire. Survivors include beloved wife, Joan, of the home; son, Craig, and wife, Vickie, OKC; son, Randy, OKC; sister, Carol Maguire, Meeker; granddaughters, Shannon Keever and husband, Ryan, Edmond; Erin Ledesma and husband, Orion, Edmond; Caitlin Cotton, Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandson, Ozzy Ledesma, Edmond; cousins, James Armstrong and wife, Virginia, MWC; Marsha Rothermel and husband, Robert, Granbury, TX; Liana Karan and husband, Jeff, Dallas, TX; Ken Wilson, McAllen, TX; and Ryan Rothermel, Dallas, TX. Services will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service Chapel, Bethany, OK, with Elder Jim Whorton, First Christian Church of Meeker, OK, officiating.
