George slipped from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. George was born on October 4, 1935 in Braggs, Oklahoma to Hazel Bell (Sipes) and Carl Richard Barton. He attended grade school in Muskogee, Oklahoma til 5th grade. His family moved to California where he lived. George joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. George spent 2 years of that time on Guam. Georges family moved back to Muskogee, Oklahoma and thats where he returned upon his discharge from the Navy in 1958. He attended Okmulgee State Tech (OSU) in Okmulgee, Oklahoma with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He worked at Cole Hopkins Garage while attending school. George was reacquainted with Ruby Barton. They were married on March 21, 1959. Upon graduation from college in August, 1961, they moved to Oklahoma City. George worked at Cummins Sales & Service for 12 years. He also worked at Lee Way Motor Freight for several years. Upon leaving Lee Way, he worked for PepsiCo (Taco Bell) for 10-12 years, retiring in 1990. He then worked for Dealer Auto Auction until November, 2016. George was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Roberta Barton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruby; his 2 daughters, Tracy Elliott and husband Richard of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa Board and husband Darrell of Cibolo, TX; 3 granddaughters, Julie Mae San Ramon (Alberto), Sara Ann Board and Maya Board, all of Cibolo, TX. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl Richard Barton (Rozenna), David Barton; two sisters, Mary Wilcox (Wayne) and Linda Duvall (Gary); along with 3 sisters-in-law, Betty Godfrey (Ed) of LaQuinta, CA, Linda Kiser (Fred) of Muskogee, OK and Shirlene Watson (Gary) of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. George has written several books one published. He loved the Lord and lived for Him from the age of 14. He has made Heaven a little brighter for those who knew him. Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-9pm, with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams.
