Obituary

Gene Fredrick Channell went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, June 8, 2013. Gene was born on January 17, 1938, to Ernest and Della Channell, in the front bedroom of his grandmother's house on 411 N. Lincoln Street, Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was one of three children. Gene graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1957, where he was active in playing on the basketball, football and track teams. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineer Design Technology with a Minor in Industrial Graphic Arts. He met his wife, Judy Jan Carter, in high school and they were married on May 21, 1960 for 25 years. They moved to Dallas and he went to work for Texas Instruments immediately after college and then joined the Army Reserves with the Artillery Division in 1961. In 1962, he worked for Burtek on a Government contract to help design the Gemini Space Simulator used by NASA. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1967. He began his career and worked for 29 years at CE NATCO Combustion Engineering Company as the Graphic Art Design and Photography Supervisor. After moving to Dallas, he worked for a Nuclear Medical Company. Seven years later, he moved to Oklahoma City to be near his daughters and began working part-time at Impressions Printing, which led into a full-time position for 10 more years until he finally decided to retire this past October of 2012, at the age of 74. He raised his family in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they were members of Central Church of the Nazarene. Gene was a "doer" and was most happy when serving. He actively served on building committees, worked on the church grounds and vehicles, served as a Sunday morning greeter, taught Sunday school and served on the Church Board. After moving to Oklahoma City, Gene became an active member of the "Get Real" Sunday school class at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed running the sound, class parties and friendships. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, home projects, and "doing" for others. His greatest love was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, and twin sons, Timothy Rod and Anthony Tod Channell. He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Dawn Dickey and her husband Brian, and Kimberly Jan Roberts and her husband Neal, all of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Caleb Scott Roberts and his wife Julie, Gregory Neal Roberts, Amelia Channell Brown, Caroline Elizabeth Dickey, Luke Harrison Roberts, and Cole Rutledge Dickey; great- grandchildren, Alice Clemintine Roberts and Charles Scott Roberts; his brother, Jack Gilbert Channell and his wife Barbara of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his sister, Betty Yvonne Lawrence and her husband Mike of Dunwoody, Georgia; five nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews.
