Gary Ted
Roberts
Sep 6, 1945 — Jun 26, 2025
Gary Ted Roberts, 79, whose life was a testimony of faith in his Lord and Savior, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Born on September 6, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Gary was the son of Theodore "Ted" Montgomery Roberts and Barbara Dean (Hawkins) Roberts. He graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1963 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond.
In 1972, Gary started working with his father at Acinitox, the pest control company Ted had founded in 1947. Later, his younger brothers, Von and Scott, also joined the family business. After their father's passing in 1988, Gary, along with his brothers, stepped up to run the company and continued their father's legacy. The business was renamed Acenitec Pest and Lawn Services in 1998 to reflect its commitment and vision to being more ecologically friendly. Gary devoted himself to Acenitec until 2024, when he and his brother Von sold the company. After more than 50 years in the family business, he began his retirement.
It was at Mayfair Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where he met his "Honey" and sweetheart, Johnnie Kay Wilkins. They married there on March 26, 1973, and shared 52 wonderful years together. During their marriage, they enjoyed renovating the homes they lived in, turning each into a beautiful and welcoming space before moving on to the next project. Gary had a talent for landscaping and design, and as a certified arborist, he used his knowledge of trees and shrubs to create colorful yards. He often used details like rocks and natural stone to bring his vision to life.
Gary loved watching sports and supporting the Oklahoma City Thunder. He didn't miss a game on TV this past season and was thrilled to see them win their first NBA championship. As an avid college football fan, he cheered for his favorite team, the University of Oklahoma Sooners, and made a point to watch as many other games as possible throughout the season.
A lifelong animal lover, Gary had a special place in his heart for dogs. While on his work route, he rescued a stray dog who would become one of the family's most beloved pets. He also showed his kindness by keeping treats in his work vehicle to give to dogs he met throughout the day. Over the years, he and his family adopted several dogs through local shelters and rescue foundations.
One of Gary's favorite "hobbies" was going out to eat. There were several restaurants in Oklahoma City where he was a regular and the staff knew him by name. Whether it was going out for breakfast, having a steak dinner, or trying the newest restaurant in town, his family and friends could always count on him to be up for it.
As an eloquent and talented author, Gary was dedicated to guiding others to Christ through his personal testimony and writings. Over the years, he wrote multiple booklets and pamphlets, sharing his faith with family, friends, and strangers alike, spreading the hope and love of Christ.
Even throughout his lengthy illness, Gary's faith remained unwavering. He was confident in God's promise of eternal life.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Von. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie; daughter, Kay Sibley (Jeff); son, Evan Roberts; grandson, Landon Sibley; brother, Scott Roberts (Jamie); sister-in-law, Deanna Roberts (Von, deceased); as well as several cousins and extended family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many employees who worked with him throughout his career.
