Obituary

Gary Gene Horton was born to Doris Jean and William Allen Horton on July 18, 1951 in Carmel, California. He was one of two identical twins. His twin brother, Terry Dean Horton, was the oldest by fifteen minutes. Gary was born into a military family and his father fought in the Korean war. After the war, the family moved to Texas. At the age of five, Gary and Terry were joined by their youngest brother, James William Horton, who was born on November 18, 1956. The family lived with Ross and Bessie Horton in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Very soon after James was born, Gary and the family joined their dad who was stationed in Germany for three and a half years. Gary and his family also lived in various postings. The family lived in Missouri, returned to Germany and then followed dad to Kansas. The Vietnam war saw another separation from dad, who returned just in time to see Gary and Terry graduate from high school in 1969. Gary attended Kansas State University for a year. With Sergeant Major of the Post, William A. Hortons retirement from the Army, Gary and family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma. There he enjoyed the company of his other grandparents, Ted and Mary Wallen. Gary graduated from Bethany Nazarene College, earning his B.A. There, Gary met the love of his life, Judy Nann Kelly. They were married September 4, 1976. Gary worked nearly 30 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone company, handling data with computers. He was a valued employee and saved he company millions of dollars. He retired due to a medical disability with worsening sight. That was when his real ministry began helping others. Gary was a great counselor. He was a devoted follower of Christ and an answer to prayers for many experiencing computer problems. He was kind and compassionate. He was a loving husband and proved to be a great caregiver to his wife, Judy, when her health began to fail. Throughout his life he never complained about the challenges he faced. Gary never stopped caring for his wife or helping others. On September 12, 2019 around 5 a.m. in the morning, Gary traded this temporal life for eternal life with his Lord and Savior. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a sister-in-law, Sandy Horton. He is survived by his brother, Terry Horton from Ft. Worth, TX; his brother, James Horton and wife Carla from Piedmont, OK; and several nephews including David Horton from Ft. Worth, TX, Andrew Horton and wife Priscilla from Kalispell, Montana, Joshua Horton and wife Chelsea from Victoria, TX, Dallas Horton and wife Rachael from Piedmont, OK, Austin Horton and wife Isabella from Oklahoma City, OK; with several grandnieces and grandnephews. All who knew him mourn his passing, but we all know that he is with the Lord. He lived as a bright light in this world of darkness. In Christ, the promise is, we will see him again!
