Obituary

Gary Lee Gilpin was born on August 30, 1948, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Richard Lee Gilpin and Patty Jean Endersby Gilpin.

Gary and Rita shared a special love for their three beloved cats, whom they affectionately considered their babies. He cared for them deeply and took great pride in being their devoted full-time dad.

Gary graduated from John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City and joined the United States Navy immediately after graduation. While serving his country, he continued his education in Jacksonville, Florida and later attended Oklahoma State University upon returning home. He remained a devoted Oklahoma State football fan throughout his life and later became a passionate Oklahoma City Thunder fan.

A skilled craftsman, Gary became a master carpenter and dedicated many years to his trade. He retired after a long and respected career with Krone Construction.

Gary had a passion for travel and loved showing Rita the beauty of the world's beaches. Among all the places they visited, Pensacola Beach, Florida, held a special place in their hearts and remained their favorite destination. The couple also enjoyed taking cruises together, and Gary especially looked forward to Captain's Night, when he could don his tuxedo and enjoy the occasion in style.

In his quieter moments, Gary enjoyed spending time on his computer playing solitaire. He also appreciated relaxing with a cold beer, a shot of whiskey, and a Camel cigarette.

Gary was always a great help around the house. He loved doing the shopping and followed Rita's grocery lists to the letter. If the list called for one bottle of dish soap, two bottles of bleach, three bottles of toilet bowl cleaner, four cans of window spray, five packs of paper towels, and six air fresheners, that's exactly what he brought home. After a good laugh when he realized what he had done he learned not to trust his "left brain" quite so much—a family joke that always brought a smile.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Jackie Morris.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Bauer of over 30 years; sister, Kathryn and husband Micheal Holdridge; his brother, Gregory and wife Terri Gilpin; several nieces and nephews; his four stepdaughters, Gloria Jordan, Terri Brooks, Nicole George, and Ashley Martin. Gary also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren—far too numerous to count—all of whom brought him great joy.

Gary will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his love of family, his sense of humor, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
