Fred Hope "Bud" Mosshart was born on July 25, 1932 and peacefully went to be with His Lord and Savior on November 1, 2012. Fred was the third of four children born to Fred Henry and Gladys Hope Land Mosshart in Knox City, TX. He grew up in Abilene, TX, and lived there all his life until his retirement in 1995. He followed in the footsteps of his father, making his living as a painter, and passed his masterful skills onto three of his sons who have also made painting their life's work. He was employed by Bowman Painting Co. in Abilene for 40 years and built a flawless and honorable reputation. His expertise in building and painting is evidenced in the many beautiful and treasured creations he leaves behind. With his accomplished skills, he was always a key person in many church building projects over the years. It was always said, "If you want it done right, you ask Bud Mosshart to do it". While traveling with Work & Witness teams to Haiti & Mexico, he shared his skills by helping build churches for others around the world. He was a member of Abilene First Nazarene Church for over 60 years, member of the church board for 30 years, sang bass in the church choir and coached softball. He was quite talented in the area of track and field while at Abilene High School. Most notably, during his senior year he had one of the longest Broad Jumps in the state of Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Mulliphen in Norfolk, VA for two years. He met the love of his life, Dolores Schumacher, from Roanoke, IL while on leave in Norfolk. It was love at first sight and he asked for her hand in marriage after only three days. They were married eleven months later and began their life in Abilene. Theirs was a deep and loving romance within a Christian marriage that has been a beautiful example to all. Bud was a loving husband in every sense of the word. His honor and deep love for his wife, Dolores, was at the heart of who he was. He was a devoted father who was always so very proud of his family. His gentle nature and sweet countenance endeared him to all who met him. He was a proud member of the Hope Giles Land family and dearly loved celebrating every three years with the many descendants of this itinerant holiness preacher at the Land family reunions. He always enjoyed hearing all the old stories and sharing his great heritage as well as passing it onto his children and grandchildren. In 1995, Bud and Dolores moved to Oklahoma City and joined Bethany First Nazarene Church where he served in many ways. He participated in many projects for BFC, building numerous props for musical productions, furniture building, Habitat for Humanity and faithfully serving in the ROC food pantry. One of his greatest joys was standing on the front row between two of his sons while singing in the BFC choir. Fred is survived by his wife Dolores of 58 years; five children, Rod (wife MaryAnn), Timothy Hope (wife Marcia), Tod (wife Lori), Emily Moore (husband Rick) and Joey (wife Shelli; grandchildren Evan (wife Andrea), Braden (fianc Laura) and Morgan Mosshart, Abby Brobston (husband Michael), Kendi Hope Proctor (husband Austin), Neely Jacobson (husband Josh), Brack Mosshart (fiance' Amanda), Colin Moore, Lindsey Walters (husband Blake), Carlie Hill (husband Tyler), Sydney, Jory, Blake and Grant Mosshart; great-grandchildren, Drew, Rhett, Reese, Cole and Brody (Jan 2013). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bobby Neal Mosshart. He is also survived by two sisters Evelyn Wasson and Jean King of Abilene, TX, and a large extended family that loved and adored him.
