Fred William
Kamp
May 7, 1928 — Feb 15, 2025
Fred William Kamp, 96, passed away on February 15, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK after a brief stay at Integris Hospice House. He was born May 7, 1928 to Frederick William Kamp and Dorothy Thacker Kamp in Oklahoma City. He married Bonnie Lee Coston on August 22, 1954 in Oklahoma City. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an electrical engineer for 41 years.
Fred loved to ride his bicycle. He started riding in 1964. He was a founding member of the Oklahoma Bicycle Society. He took over leading the Donut Ride in 1978. In 1998, Governor Frank Keating awarded Fred with his own day and we have been celebrating Fred Kamp Day annually in July ever since. While he didn't like being the center of attention, he did like cake, donuts and visiting with his fellow riders and friends.
Fred also loved watching westerns. Thank goodness for Grit TV! He also enjoyed the Smithsonian channel and the History channel.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Bonnie; and his brother, Dick. He is survived by his sons, David and Donald (wife Allison); daughter, Karen (husband Dan); grandsons, Jay (wife Heather) and Andrew (husband Kris); great-grandsons, Logan, Cager, Daniel, Jacob, and Alistair, all of Oklahoma City; sister, Dorothy of Tulsa, OK; and numerous other beloved family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 10:00am, at Church of the Savior in Oklahoma City. Please feel free to wear your Fred Kamp Day or bicycle attire, or anything yellow if you have it.
