Obituary

Mary Frances Odom Lawson went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2012, whom she accepted as her personal Savior at the age of eleven. She was ninety-one. Frances was born May 31, 1921 to James Howell and Ruth C. Odom in Dayton, Texas. As a child during the Great Depression, and the oldest of five children, she learned responsibility and the value of family. Frances graduated Salutatorian from Dayton High School in 1938 and went on to attend Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, Frances taught at West Nichols Hills Elementary School in Oklahoma City for 14 years. While in college, Frances met the love of her life, Fred R. Lawson Sr., whom she married on February 28, 1942 at the First Baptist Church of Denton. Frances was a member of Church of the Servant UMC but for many years was an active Southern Baptist. She served in OKC at Northwest Baptist Church and in the other communities in which she lived. She willingly served in many leadership positions that touched children and young adults. During their retirement years, Fred and Frances served as volunteers in the Mission Service Corps (MSC) of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (NAMB). She and Fred traveled the nation for thirteen years giving encouragement and counseling to other MSC volunteers in their service to the Lord and His Church. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Dr. Fred R. Lawson, Sr., and two sisters, Louise Weimer and Beth Holloway. She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Moore of Baytown, Texas and Jimmy Williams of Baytown, Texas; and three sons, Russell Lawson and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, Ron Lawson and wife Elaine of Rabun Gap, GA, and Rick Lawson and wife Vickie of Melbourne Beach, FL. Also surviving Frances are twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Cross at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City, with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MSC Assistance Fund, NAMB, 4200 North Point Pkway, Alpharetta, GA 30022; or the charity of your choice.
