Obituary

Fran Read claimed Gods promise of eternal life on February 19, 2016 after a brief illness. Caring and sharing warmth and sincerity were an integral part of who she was. She was born December 9, 1926, in Oklahoma City to Frances and Joe Parker and had one sister, Jo Lucille Furbee. She married Bob Read January 12, 1955, and they began their quest for a happy 61 years of trusting friendship. For all these years they have been exceptionally content and blessed with their loving family; Son, Gary Read and wife Jean of Mustang; daughter, Marilyn Bryant of OKC and granddaughter, Carrie Cooper and husband Andy of Piedmont. After Fran graduated from Central High School in 1944, she worked in the Credit Department at Barths Closier, the Home Insurance Company and the Interstate Livestock Commission Company at the Oklahoma National Stockyards in Oklahoma City. After Bob returned from service in WWII and the Korean War, she joined him in operating Bob Read Cattle Company and Browns Livestock Commission Company. Since 1989, they have been part-owners of the OKC West Livestock Marketing Association Inc. in El Reno, OK. The Reads have always enjoyed outdoor recreation. Fran played golf in several Ladies Golf Associations, and they spent a lot of time in their 5th wheel at Lake Texhoma. Fran joined First Christian Church in 1947, where Rev. Bill Alexander performed their wedding ceremony. For many years the couple have been active members. A prime member of Loyal Partners Sunday School Class, Fran has made daily calls and hospital visits, as well as weekly reports to the class about members who were ill or experiencing personal problems. She also worked with the Fine Arts Department and Decorating Committee and served as a Deacon and Deaconess. Fran had a great sense of humor, superb rapport with people, and was an avid bridge player. Her friends and family viewed her as vibrant, comforting and fun. She filled the room with joy and laughter. Her family and host of friends will be sustained by a rich legacy of memories of this extraordinary lady with a beautiful spirit. Everyone will always treasure the memory of her who truly understood the meaning of friendship as she never let anything stop her from focusing on a friend or relating who was having a problem and sending encouraging notes, making calls or inviting them to lunch. Viewing will be Monday, Feb. 22, from 9am-9pm with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Service will be 2:00pm, Feb 23 at OKC 1st Christian Church with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Funeral Service Tuesday, February 23, 2016 02:00 PM First Christian Church, OKC 3700 N. Walker Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73118
