Obituary

Farris Elwood Willingham was a father and an artist. To see his art was like peering inside his mind. His works were unique, often conveying his personal sense of humor. Farris had a quick wit and could make anybody laugh. His own laughter and energy were infectious. You felt accomplished if you were able to get him going. He also had a knack for making you feel his joy, embodied in his compassion, love and understanding. Farris was laid back and quiet, which made witnessing his joy even more special. He was a minimalist, but enjoyed his family, films, books, and a vast array of music through his immense vinyl collection. To his kids, he was the coolest dad in the world. Farris was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma and grew up in Tecumseh and Oklahoma City. Growing up, he was athletic, playing basketball & competing in the high jump. He could jump over a pole that was as tall as he was. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He worked several different jobs throughout his life, including owning and operating the first futon store in OKC, Cloud 9 Futon. But, his lasting legacy is his art. Farris died May 19, 2018. He follows his mom, Sylvia Geraldine Daniels; father, Farris Elwood Willingham I; sister, Karen Maron; and brother-in-law, Caro Kostan.
