Evva May Riley, nee Kelly, of Oklahoma City, died Saturday the 25th of May, 2013 in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Evva was her usual self, decorating family gravesites for the Memorial Day holiday when she became ill and was rushed to Weatherford General Hospital where she later passed away. Born on April 11, 1919 in Cement, Oklahoma, she was the second of 10 children born to Ora and Nellie May Kelly. Growing up and moving around Oklahoma to several small towns, her family finally settled in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she graduated from Weatherford High on May 28, 1937. She attended college at Southwestern in Weatherford where she met Jack Ellis Riley and, on August 31, 1940, they were wed. Her husband, Jack, joined the Navy during WWII and, after having survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Hornet, they were reunited for the balance of the war in Washington State. After the war, they settled in Oklahoma City where they lived the rest of their lives. Evva had one son, Richard Riley, born in 1947. She was a housewife and mother, referee, umpire, and often doctor to the neighborhood kids. She was a friend, substitute teacher, homeroom mother, PTA president, party planner and any other volunteer position that was needed. Later in life, she and Jack traveled extensively to art shows where they showed Jack's sculpture. She would always introduce him as the "Third R" with Remington and Russell. After Jack died in 1989, she began aerobics and eventually became a regular at Pacer Fitness Center where she spent her mornings and some of the best times of her life with loving friends. Afternoons were spent with her friends in card games, movies and parties for any reason they could think of. She enjoyed life with friends and family and was there for anyone who needed her. Evva was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ellis Riley; sisters, Millie Plumb, Nellie Ann Dennis, Dorothy Harker and Pat Chapman; and brother, Allen Riley. She is survived by sisters, Barbara Waldrip, Orajean Bradley, Aliene Budman and Bonnie Hasbrook; two grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Campbell and Mathew Ellis Riley; 2 step-grandchildren, Brook Hall and Jamie Kline; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evva is at Mercer-Adams, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK. Viewing is available on Tuesday and Wednesday with the family present on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford, Oklahoma. If heaven wasn't organized before, it soon will be.
