Obituary

Everett Kent Burnside of Midwest City, 79, slipped the surly bonds of Earth on December 8, 2024, to rejoin his Lord and his love. He was born in Oklahoma City on June 23, 1945 to Billy Mae Burnside and Everett Samuel Burnside, the youngest of three handsome children. Kent spent his youth between Texas and Oklahoma, but settled in Edinburg, Texas in 1956, graduating Edinburg High School in 1963. He learned plumbing at his father's side and attended Pan American College to study Accounting. Kent joined the US Army and served during the Vietnam War, joking that he was a "Remington Raider" but truly being proud of his service to his country.

During a trip to Oklahoma City, he met Mary Louise Piercey, and by 1967 she was Mary Burnside. They welcomed one son, Sean Patrick Burnside and the trio spent many happy years in Midwest City. Both Kent and Mary worked at Tinker Air Force Base. Kent found comfort and fellowship at Crown Heights Nazarene Church after Mary's death in 2001. He joyfully and selflessly served there in numerous capacities until July, 2024.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Sean. Survivors include sister, Judy Lamberth of Lafayette, LA; and brother, Jay Burnside and wife Pam of Frisco, TX. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Jennifer England-Burnside as well as many nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

Kent was a kind, helpful soul, a loyal Sooner fan, a dedicated poll-worker, a skilled handyman, and a warm-hearted joking scamp. He touched the lives of many, and has now reached out and touched the face of God. Donations may be made in Kent's name to the American Cancer Society.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 20, 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00am before the service.
