Estephanie "Tita" Estrada died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 9, 2013. Estephanie was born in Elizabethtown, New Mexico in 1916. She enjoyed a happy childhood in her beloved Black Lake, New Mexico. She grew up on a farm with her grandfather, Juan Casias, her mother, Maclovia Martinez, and her three sisters and four brothers. Estephanie attended junior high school at James Allison School in Sante Fe, and graduated from Menaul High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She met her husband, Joe, in Higgins, Texas and they were married in Morris Plains, New Jersey, in 1943. They settled in Bethany, Oklahoma in 1950, where they raised their family. After Joe passed away in 1995, she enjoyed many new friendships through her Sunday school class and the Ann Circle at Putnam City Methodist Church, and her tatting class with the Senior Citizens group. Mom enjoyed competing at the Oklahoma State Fair winning many blue ribbons for her pineapple-upside-down cake, jams and jellies. No family gathering was complete without her apple pie. Mom always said family is what life is all about. She lived her life as an example of that belief. She taught her children to live an honorable life, and considered that her legacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Estrada and her son, Michael Estrada. She is survived by her son, David Estrada (Joyce); her daughters, Elsie Tillery (Gordon) and Isabel Edwards (Bill). Also surviving are her grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart: Stephen, Kristina and Michael, Stephanie, Megan and Allison, Marianne, Micha and Maura, Laura and Rebeca; and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister, Teodora Vigil; her sister-in-law, Laveta Estrada; many special nieces and nephews; her special friend, Debra Marler; and many life-long friends. We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Debra Riggs for her devoted attention to Mom. Mom, you're at home with God now, where good-byes no longer exist. We'll miss you and love you and are grateful for the knowledge that we will all be together again. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28. Family visitation will be Sunday, 3-5pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Monday, December 16, 10:00am at Putnam City United Methodist Church with interment in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
