Obituary

Ervin Gordon Heidebrecht departed this earth on September 2, 2019, at age 90. He was born September 26, 1928, near Corn, Oklahoma, to Arthur John and Elsie (Nickel) Heidebrecht. He married Bobbye Jewel Thompson September 25, 1954, whom he met on a blind date set up by his aunts, Johanna & Tillie Nickel. Ervin and Bobbye spent 65 beautiful years together. He completed high school and attended Oklahoma City University for 2 years. He began his military service in the 180th Infantry Division of the US Army beginning July 9, 1951, where he served as a medic in the Korean War. He returned home and began serving in the US Army Reserves on May 22, 1953 and received an Honorable Discharge on July 8, 1959, with a rank of Private E-1. During his tenure with the US Army, he was decorated with the following honors: Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars; Combat Infantry Badge and the United Nations Service Medal. He worked at International Harvester as a diesel mechanic and was promoted to service supervisor. He retired from Copeland International in 1993 as a well-respected staff member. After retirement, he began to deliver trucks for Roberts IdeaLease. He enjoyed taking his grandsons along on these trips which gave them some extra money and many memorable hours with their grandfather. Ervin was very active in his church which he began attending in 1956. He served as both usher and deacon during his time there. He and Bobbye spent many hours lovingly taking care of the west flower bed at church as well as helping to keep the lawn and bushes in top form. It was always a very beautiful and welcoming sight for members and visitors. He continued this love of gardening at his home where he was often awarded "Yard of the Month". Ervin was a kind and gentle, gracious, hard-working man who loved his beautiful wife, his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren (who knew him as "Big E"), brothers, sisters and extended family. Family was very important to him. Ervin was pre-deceased by his parents, Arthur and Elsie Heidebrecht, sister, Gladys Sawatzky, brothers-in-law, Harry Sawatzky and Carl Decker. Ervin leaves behind many who loved him dearly: his wife, Bobbye, his son, Larry and wife, Joy; his son, Lynn and wife, Cheryl; Grandsons: Brett (and wife, Claire), Tyler (and wife, Jana); Granddaughters whom he referred to as his princesses, Kaylyn (and husband, George), Julie (and husband, Caleb); Great-grandchildren: Kierra, Ava, A.J., Isaac, Margo, Amy, Liv and Judah; brothers: Melvin and Norman (and wife, Gerri); sister, Betty Decker; many nephews, nieces and cousins. The Heidebrecht family extends a special statement of heartfelt gratitude for the excellent care Ervin received at the hands of those attending him from Physicians Choice Hospice Care, and especially those at Villagio Assisted Living who were exceptionally generous with their tender loving care.
