Obituary

Erna M. Christofferson, 90, of Bethany, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Erna was born on November 13, 1922, to Wilhelm and Theresia (Alliger) Ehspanner, in Lohrville, Iowa. Erna earned an associate's degree from American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, where she met, and later married, her husband of 68 years, Kenneth Christofferson, in 1943. After Ken's service in WWII, Erna and Ken made their home in Des Moines and raised their two children, Cathy and Jim. In 1965, the family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma. Erna retired from Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company in OKC after working 22 years. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and volunteered for several organizations. Erna's immediate survivors include her daughter, Cathy Suchy of Bethany; her son, James Christofferson and wife, Laura, of Edmond. Grandchildren include Scott and Kelly Suchy, OKC; Shannon and Mark Peregrin, Edmond; Shay and Kyle Payne, Maryville, Missouri; and Cory Christofferson of Tulsa. Great-Grandchildren are Cate and Turner Suchy; Joe, Jack, and Drew Peregrin; and Ethan, Emery, and Eli Payne. Erna is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Iowa and Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Emma Johnson. Erna's family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to Mary Jo and Connie of Visiting Angels, Sylvia (Sue) Rogers, RN, of Oklahoma Hospice Care, and Pastor Jim Beckett, for their loving care of Erna. Viewing with family present will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Mercer-Adams in Bethany. Services will be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany on Monday, May 6th at 10 a.m., with graveside services to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
