Obituary

Erma Jean Stapp was reunited with her husband of fifty-seven years on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Erma Jean Phelps was born in Irwin, Kansas on December 28, 1927. Jean met Chuck Stapp, a WWII soldier, at a USO dance where she was volunteering. They immediately began sharing plans for their future together in letters and then married when the war was over. Jean was then able to begin her calling as a Christian wife and mother. Chuck and Jean started their life together in Dayton, Ohio where Chuck was a college student. Their first son, David Charles Stapp was born there. Upon Chucks graduation from college the young family moved to Chicago where two more sons, Phillip John Stapp and Mark Allan Stapp soon followed. The Stapp family lived in Chicago for seven years and moved to Oklahoma City in 1959. Jean took very seriously her calling of homemaker. She maintained a meticulous home and was very involved in the raising of her three boys, but she was never too busy to honor her first calling as a servant of Jesus Christ. As the spiritual matriarch of the Stapp family, Jeans example of Christian faith never faltered during her 83 years of life. Despite her battle with Diabetes and its complications she never let that slow her down. She and Chuck loved to travel and she was always up for an adventure. She couldnt sit down. If there was a dish to be washed or a job at Putnam City Baptist Church that needed to be done she was there without complaint. Chuck and Jean worked and played as a team. Chuck only left Jeans side when he preceded her in death in 2006. Jean waited patiently to join Chuck and was again a constant Christian example to her youngest son, Mark and his wife, Cynthia, as they welcomed her into their home to live. During Jeans lifetime she was able to begin life for three sons, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will all miss her desperately and be eternally grateful to her for the Christian example that her life radiated. The family rejoices that these two lifelong mates are reunited in heaven. We will all miss you, Mom, Jean, Grandma and Mimi. Thank you for sharing your life and Christian faith with us. We have been blessed. There will be a celebration of her life at Putnam City Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00am with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 9am-9pm with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Memorial gifts can be given to the Putnam City Baptist church Benevolence Ministry.
