Obituary

Erliene Ruth Brunkau was born March 7, 1920 in Chase, KS and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 20, 2020. Her parents were H.O. and Ida (Frede) Brunkau. Her father was a minister, and her mother was a homemaker. Erliene was the middle child, with an older sister, Verla, and a younger sister, Roma. She lived with her aging parents, and she was their caregiver. Her mother lived until age 99, and her father lived until 103. She went to elementary school in Hutchison, KS and Chase, KS. For high school and one year of college, she went to Bresee Theological College in Hutchison, KS. She also attended Bethany Peniel College, which later became Southern Nazarene University (SNU) for two years, but she did not finish her degree. She moved to Dodge City, KS were her parents lived and worked most of the time for Fairmont. Then, she moved to Oklahoma in 1957 to work as an accountant for Dr. Craddock at Bethany Peniel College. She spent the rest of her career in the registrars office there. She loved working there and meeting all the students. After her retirement, she helped at registration for many years. Erliene was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene since 1957, where she taught 2-year-olds in Sunday school for thirty years. She helped or was in charge of funeral dinners for many years, and she was well known for her peach cobbler. Later, she became her Sunday School class treasurer. She was honored with the Hall of Witnesses award from SNU in 2010. Sewing, traveling, and helping others, including her family, were what she loved best. She was always willing to take neighbors and friends to the doctor, run errands, and help with chores. She loved her family immensely and spent all the time she could with them. She never married, but she loved her nieces and nephews and cousins like her own. Christmas was her favorite holiday because she loved being with family and friends. She traveled to several European countries, Israel, Canada, and to most states in the United States, including New York, Hawaii, and Alaska. She traveled frequently with three friends, Maureen Dickerson, Kathleen Sodowsky, and Eunice Cheshire. She, naturally by being 100, had seen things change from Model Ts to airplanes. She was a courageous woman. She drove until she was 95. She was not really happy with the advances in technology, even though she had a cell phone. Her favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. Lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." KJV Her words of wisdom for others were, "Act like a Christian. Be truthful, dependable and a good citizen!" She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Judy Ensminger, Amarillo, TX; Jan Sullivan, Panhandle, TX; Rev. Ron and Deanna Sullivan, Amarillo, TX; Joyce and Ken Ball, Grain Valley, MO; Cheryl Joy Tallant, Paola, KS; Dean Stayton, Olathe, KS; Glenn and Becky Taylor, Kansas City, KS; and Gina and Anthony Tanner, Decatur, TX. She also had nine great-nieces and nephews and twenty great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Brunkau; her father, H.O. Brunkau; her sister, Verla Sullivan; her brother-in-law, Charles Sullivan; her sister, Roma Taylor; her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Taylor and D.T.
