Obituary

Emma Stuart of Bethany passed from this life May 10, 2011. She celebrated her 95th birthday April 27. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wylie Smith and Vera Viola (Robinson) Smith, daughter, Patsy Jean Calhoun, and brother, John (Jake) Cyrus Smith. She is survived by three children: son Charles Stuart & wife Carolyn of Houston, Texas, daughters Judy Bell of Bethany, Oklahoma and Linda Tilley & husband Gary of Meridian, Texas; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Emma operated a day care for 20 years in Austin, Texas. Her day care children presented a Christmas program for over 10 years to the State Health Department, which was across the street. Sometimes she was surprised with calls or letters from parents who still wanted to keep in touch. After retiring at age 81, Emma moved to Bethany where she found opportunities to keep busy and serve others. She organized a group to do 3,500 monthly mailings for over 2 years for Reaching Our City, and also 1,800 mailings for about 3 years for Love Link Ministries. Over the years, she was involved with children, youth, senior adult and mission ministries. Her motto was and still is: No rocking chair for me. I have important things to do! Emma was known for her caring, encouraging love and prayers for others. Her postman was kept busy with all the cards and letters of encouragement she sent daily. She was one who knew the value of laughter and being positive. Her faith in God was a top priority. She attended Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene. While living in Texas, she attended Grace Church of the Nazarene in Austin. Her children remember and appreciate all the sacrifices that she made for them. Services will be at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, Oklahoma at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
