Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Psalm 31:30-31 Elwynne Lynell Price Matthews, 86, went home to her Lord on March 18, 2015 in OKC. She was born April 17, 1928 in Muskogee, OK to Sterling Rushing and Cora Lee Woodward May. She was an educator and longtime church staff pianist at Olivet Baptist Church, faithfully serving for 40 years where she also directed the hand bell choirs. Elwynne received her Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and held a Master's in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Don Price, her parents, and 8 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) L. Matthews, 3 daughters: Laura Dixon and husband David; Mindy Price; and Donna Whittern and husband Randy, all of OKC. Elwynne's (Nana's) grandchildren were the delight of her life: Christa Brazille and husband Dwayne and their children Kayleigh, Karsten, Kamrie, Cayman and DeJuanta; Joe Cleaver and daughter Katlynn; Laurie Ortiz and husband Nery and their children Mia and Leo; Craig Abbott and wife Michele and children Devin, Brianne, and Jase; Carla Young and husband Ryan and children, Kelli, Kenzie, and soon to be born baby boy; Rachel Carollo and husband Josh and children Emma, Samantha, Abby, and Silas; Dustin Whittern; Holly Chilcoat and husband Dustin; Katie Sauer and husband Scott and soon to be born baby boy Whit. Also survived by honorary son, Larry Williamson; 4 sisters-in-law: Catherine May, Marie May, Kathy Price, and Jo Ann Cash; and her beloved nieces and nephews. With Bob she also enjoyed sharing his 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church with interment in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Services will be conducted by her dear friend. Keith Butler.
