Elvertt "Jerry" Barton was reunited with his parents, Joseph Elvertt and Clessie Silvia Barton, and his three sisters on June 27, 2020. Jerry was born and raised in Bethany, Oklahoma. He grew up in his home with the family business right outside the door where they ran a full-service gas station. This of course would be his first experience in his working career. While a junior in high school, he enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard completing his basic training in the summer preceding his senior year. He graduated in 1958 from Bethany High School. He went on to college and married his first wife, Alice, in 1959 and they had two daughters. Jerry graduated from OCU in 1964 receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. He began his computer career as a programmer, computer specialist, computer systems moving on to supervise and manage. He continued his military career becoming a Staff Sergeant in 1965 when he received a direct commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. On June 29, 1979 he married Jeannette, bringing her two sons to their marriage. In 1983, he transferred from the Air National Guard to Air Force Reserves continuing from there to rank up. In October of 1990, he was promoted to Colonel. When Jerry had free time, he enjoyed several hobbies. He participated in chorus, barbershop, gospel quartet, square dancing, golf, and cards. He loved the outdoors and traveling. Jerry retired in 1993 from FAA and in 1995 retired from the military. He decided full retirement wasnt what he wanted and went on to work as a consultant for a couple of companies. Retired for good to enjoy all his hobbies, family, and friends in 2000.
Jerry was raised in the Church of Christ and truly loved and worshipped our Lord and Savior. Brought his kids up to follow Jesus and encouraged many around him. In 2014, he was chosen as a Hall of Honor recipient at Bethany High School. Jerry always did as much work as possible on their home and worked on his kids' homes and even his grandkids homes.
Jerry leaves behind his beautiful wife of 41 years, Jeannette; their daughters, Missy Thomas and husband Rick, Kandee Penwright and husband Jon; their two sons, Patrick Costain and wife Kristie, Jim Costain and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Trey Roper and wife Amanda, Hunter Jones and wife Jennifer, Kody Meder, Lacey McLane and husband Tyrel, Matt, Kody, Serenity, and Jordan Penwright, Brittney, Tierney, Anthony, Joshua, Courtney, and John Costain, and Zach Neill; great-grandchildren, Brylie, Cooper, and Jack Roper; Aiden and Olivia Jones; Jerzie, Milo, and Maizee McLane.
