Obituary

Elrae Joyce Copas, 80, passed away on November 29, 2021. She was born November 5, 1941 in Oklahoma City, OK to Melvin and Bessie McAbee. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1959. She began employment at Western Electric as a Medical Directors Assistant and retired in 2000 from Lucent Technologies. Elrae was married to Harold Copas on February 11, 1961. They were happily married for 60 years. Together they loved to go on Harley rides, enjoy the views on the Talimena Drives, water ski, go to the lake, snow ski, and travel. Elrae was Harolds biggest fan and attended many softball games while he coached. In 1962 they had their first daughter, Traci Lee, and in 1964 they had their second daughter, Shelli Rae. As a family they enjoyed many vacations together. She became the beloved "Mammy" in 1986 to Hailley Alyssa Payne and in 1988 to Hannah Ashlee Holcomb. She will be remembered as a gracious, generous, and loving wife, mom, "Mammy", sister, aunt, and friend to all. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for hosting delicious meals, hospitality in her home, around her kitchen table, especially around holiday occasions. She was loved deeply by her great-granddaughters, Charlee Parker Payne, Ellie Joy Holcomb, and Poppie Grace Holcomb. In her free time, she loved to attend the Lyric Theatre with her daughters and granddaughters, taking tap classes and bus trips with her best friend Martha, and planting flowers in her garden and granddaughters garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Bessie McAbee; sister-in-law, Martha McAbee; sister, Janice McAbee Reitz; brother in-law, Bob Reitz; and daughter, Traci Copas. She is survived by her husband, Harold Copas; daughter, Shelli Copas; granddaughters, Hailley Payne and Hannah Holcomb and husband Christopher Holcomb; great-granddaughters, Charlee Payne, Ellie Holcomb, Poppie Holcomb; brother, Dahl McAbee; niece, Darci McAbee; and nephew, Devin McAbee and wife Crystal McAbee; and great-nephews, Lucas and Miles. Viewing with family present will be 6-8pm at Mercer Adams. Services will be held Saturday December 4, 11:00 am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City, OK. . There are no gallery images.
