Elmer Leon Kliewer passed from this life in the early morning hours of March 14th with his sons close by his side. He was eighty-two years old. He was born the youngest of six children to Bertha and Theodore Kliewer on February 19, 1939, in Cordell, Oklahoma and was raised on a farm northeast of Cordell. He loved his small-town home in western Oklahoma and fiercely cared for his five siblings.
His father, Theodore, passed away in 1950, and this experience in his early years caused him to spend his life in compassionate dedicated service to those who had lost spouses.
He married his wife, Sally Ann Treanor of Lincoln, Nebraska on April 16th, 1960. The two of them were loving and devoted parents to their three sons Timothy, Terry, and Tommy, enthusiastically supporting them in all of their endeavors in early life. This devotion to their sons led them to take on roles as active members of the PTA and booster club presidents at Northwest Classen High School.
One of the many great joys of his life was being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time in support of their athletic and artistic endeavors as well as spending his time imparting to them the wisdom he amassed from a life well lived.
Elmer had a successful career with Sears Department Store in Oklahoma City; he enjoyed his work and made many lifelong friends. His trustworthy and friendly reputation as a salesman easily transitioned his career into real estate where generations of families trusted him to find them the perfect home. Through his many years of compassionate service, he became an old friend to a great many people. His family would often remark that they couldnt go anywhere in Oklahoma City with Elmer without bumping into at least one person that he knew.
Elmer was a lifelong follower of Christ and an active member of The Metropolitan Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school classes and coached the YMCA church league basketball team, even leading one of his teams to a state championship game. His son, Tim, was a member of that team.
He was a good and faithful servant to his Lord, and his love for God was evident in all that he did. Elmer was a humble and generous man who sought the wisdom of his creator above all things. Those that were fortunate to know him will always remember the gentle and calming nature of his presence.
Elmer was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bertha and Theodore Kliewer and his brothers and sisters, Eldon, Esther, Elvera, Harold and Donald Kliewer.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; his sons, Timothy (Pam) Kliewer, Terry (Amy) Kliewer and Tommy (Jill) Kliewer; as well as his grandchildren, Paisley, Paxton, Ann Marie, William, Max and Alisha and great-grandsons, Rafe and Jaxon; and many nieces and nephews.
