Obituary

Elbert Rodney Vaughan went to be with his Lord on March 28, 2013. Born in Briscoe County, Texas on April 25, 1936 to Carl Elbert and Arrena Belle Vaughan, he later moved to Hollis, OK, where he graduated from Hollis High School. After high school, he went to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he received his BS degree in Elementary Education. He later attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, where he received his Masters in Education. He married his loving wife and best friend, Joy Lee Cary, on July 10, 1958. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joy, one daughter, Anne Fischer of Oklahoma City, two sons, John (Marsena) Vaughan of Simpsonville, KY, and Steve (Merrie Lynn) Vaughan of Oklahoma City. Also, five grandchildren: Brooke (Drew) McDonald of Moore, OK, Rodney and Alisa Vaughan of Simpsonville, KY, and Wesley and Laura Vaughan of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by two sisters, Arrena Sue Littrell of Bethany and Carleen Coffin of Altus, OK, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He enjoyed teaching school for 45 years in Lubbock, TX, Duncan, OK, Clovis, NM, Oklahoma City, Woodward, Yukon, and Mustang, OK. He retired from Mustang Elementary School in 2003. After retiring, he worked weekly as a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital for 10 years. He was also very involved in the Southpointe Nazarene Church. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 6 to 8pm on Monday, April 1st at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany. Services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Calvary Nazarene Church at NW 30th and Rockwell in Bethany.
