Obituary

Eileen Marie (Green) Gilbert was born October 14, 1922 in Ingersoll, OK to Rev. Elvin A. and Marie Green, and passed into eternal life on February 28, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family. She and the love of her life, James L. Gilbert, were married October 20, 1940 by her father in El Reno, OK. Following Jimmies return from service overseas in World War II there were several moves due to his career as a retail manager, including Elk City, Norman, and Altus, OK, as well as some time in California and Texas, but since the early 1950s, they were central figures in the community of Bethany and at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where they were members, serving faithfully for many decades in civic and church endeavors. Eileen loved God, and at a very early age became a follower of Christ, who was her Lord and Savior throughout her lifetime. Devoted to her husband and family, her life was given to the care and support of him, her four girls, her extended family and friends. Eileen worked alongside Jimmie in several of the retail establishments he operated and she worked at Southern Nazarene University for a time in the 80s and many years later helped there in the summers. She also assisted in any way that was needed during the many years Jimmie was administrator of Western Oaks Health Care Center. She was a gifted hostess, enthusiastic gardener, accomplished artist (for her familys enjoyment), avid reader and loved to listen to hymns and Christmas music (year-round!) A beautiful sunset, flower, bird or any of Gods creation never failed to touch her with wonder and appreciation. Her home was always a place of welcome, warmth and a great meal. Her legacy to us is her Godly example of service, sacrifice, and unfailing love. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Gary James, and 3 brothers (Quentin, Millard and Clayton Green.) She is survived by her truly devoted husband of over 68 years, James; four daughters and their husbands: Marilyn & Jim Kinnamon, Margaret & Dennis Farmer, Martha & Ben Fast and Mary & Tim Lankford; 9 grandchildren (Steve Kinnamon, Chelene Landis, Andrea Stewart, Curtis Farmer, Katie Smith, and Laura, Lisa, Leslie and Loren Fast); 12 great-grandchildren (Makenna, Madison & Colton Kinnamon; Erin, Eileen, David, & Ellen Landis; Jacob & Anna Stewart; Caleb & Megan Farmer and McCall Smith; 3 sisters (Fern Fauss Freeman, Dorothy VanArsdel and Carol McGilvra) and 4 brothers (Bob, Andy, Merrill and Max Green). The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Full Life Hospice for their unfailing support and professional care throughout her long illness.
