Our precious wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Edythe Louise Williams, passed away on Wednesday, July 26th at her home in Oklahoma City at the age of 90. Edythe will be remembered most for her bright smile and contagious laughter, strong sense of fashion, witty sense of humor, and most of all, the love she had for her family.
Edythe was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to Edna (Sisk) and Homer John Faulkner on September 24, 1932. After her family moved to Dallas, Edythe attended Sunset High School, graduating in 1950. While in high school, she played basketball, excelled in academics, was a cheerleader, and met the love of her life, Benny Williams.
Ben and Edythe were married on March 30, 1951 in San Diego, California while Ben was serving in the Marine Corps. Their journey together took them back to Dallas where they began a family and then eventually to Oklahoma City. Their marriage of more than 72 years was based on love, respect, and kindness and serves as an example of what true love really is.
Edythe worked as an executive assistant for stockbrokers in both Dallas and Oklahoma City and then several medical facilities while also raising her family. She retired from Integris Medical Center in 1996.
Edythe supported her husband, Ben, and 2 daughters, Glenda and Lisa, in everything they did. She was a strong role model and guided her "girls" through lifes challenges, often healing both physical and emotional wounds while displaying the true meaning of unconditional love as they chased their dreams. Whether it was during the many fun-filled summers at the house on Lake Texoma, numerous trips and cruises, or celebrating holidays, birthdays, or weddings, Edythe was up for anything as long as she could be with her family.
Edythes enormous love for family went beyond "the original 4" to her grandchildren and eventually their children. "Granny" showered her grandchildren, Sean Taylor, Casey Lewis, and Ryan Billingsley, with love and devotion and served as not only a role model but a best friend to all of them. She always had "their backs." Her love showed no limits and extended to her great-grandchildren with the same intensity that only their Granny could show. Madeline Taylor, Luke and Charlotte Lewis, and Isabell Reid are so fortunate to have felt that type of love that runs deep and knows no earthly boundary.
During Edythes battle with Vascular Dementia, she was surrounded with compassionate and loving care from her devoted husband, Ben, who took care of her with tireless dedication and patience around the clock along with her caregiver and friend, Felecia (Lisa) Boyd. We are also thankful for the support from the staff of Oklahoma Palliative and Hospice Care which enabled her to stay comfortable at home until her passing surrounded by her family.
Precious Edythe was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Homer Faulkner. She leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Benny (Ben); daughters, Glenda (Mike) Billingsley, Lisa (Mike) Geniesse; brother, Homer John Faulkner of Dallas; grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie) Taylor, Casey (Taylor) Lewis, and Ryan Billingsley; great-grandchildren, Madeline Taylor, Luke and Charlotte Lewis, and Isabell Reid; nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and neighbors.
