Maj. Edward A. Foust, age 70, departed for his Heavenly home on May 30, 2019 in Oklahoma City. Ed was born on May 7, 1949 in Oklahoma City to J.D. and Ethel Foust. He grew up with wonderful friends while attending Lone Star Elementary, and he remained in contact with many of them up until his death. Ed loved most sports, especially baseball. He once had a promising career as a young pitcher and was even scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates at one point. The Almighty God had other plans for Ed, though, and he felt the Lords call into ministry during his college years at the University of Central Oklahoma. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Marge. He graduated on May 30, 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Minors in General Business and Economics.
Ed continued his journey into the ministry by attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. During this time, Ed showed his devotion to Marge by driving back to Oklahoma City every weekend to spend time with her. They married on May 19, 1972. Ed graduated on July 18, 1975 with a Masters of Religious Education and a Masters of Divinity.
Eds first ministerial position was as an Associate Pastor at First Christian Church in Newcastle, PA. From there, he accepted a calling as an Associate Pastor at First Christian Church in Midwest City, OK.
After attending Clergy Day at Tinker Air Force Base, Ed decided he wanted to serve our country as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force. He commissioned on December 6, 1979. His first assignment was at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, CA. Their first daughter, Julie, was born on February 28, 1981. While in California, he volunteered for a one-year remote assignment in King Salmon, AK.
The next step on their Air Force journey took Ed and Marge back to Oklahoma with an assignment at Tinker AFB. It was here that their second daughter, Mary, was born on December 15, 1983.
During his 20 year career, Ed and his family traveled across the world. They were stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan, Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, MI, Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH, and Randolph AFB in San Antonio, TX. He also deployed twice to Saudi Arabia and provided stateside support during Operation Desert Storm. Ed retired from the United States Air Force on December 1, 1999. He and his family moved back to Oklahoma City to establish permanent residency.
After feeling a calling to become a hospice Chaplain, Ed continued to minister to those in need. The Lord then led him to guide people as a Job Readiness Instructor at OSU-OKC, where he taught and counseled individuals to overcome personal, social, and behavioral problems that hindered their ability to gain employment. He retired from OSU-OKC on June 30, 2018.
Ed was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He marveled at his two grandchildren, Grace and Isaac, whose antics brought immense joy to his life every day.
Sooner Born and Sooner Bred, Ed was a devoted fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was proud of the fact that he instilled his love of Sooner Football into his two daughters, and he would reply, "Boomer Sooner" and "Texas Sucks" up until the day of his death.
Ed cherished 47 years of marriage with Marge and will forever consider her his soulmate. He is survived by his wife, Marge; daughters, Julie, Mary & husband Mark; grandchildren, Grace and Isaac; brother, Don & wife Karen; sister, Loretta & husband Warren. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. brothers, Gary, and James & wife Carolyn.
WELL LOVE YOU FOREVER AND A DAY!!!
