Obituary
Edward Douglas Carr, 63, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021 at home in his sleep after a long struggle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Edward, the youngest of 4, was born on June 15, 1958 to Joseph Wilber and Ethel Adelene (Osborne) Carr in LaMesa, CA. He graduated a year early from El Cajon Valley High School in 1976. After high school, Edward joined the US Air Force. He attended basic training at Lockport AFB in Texas and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Keeler AFB. After graduation, he returned home to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Lea Phipps. They were married on May 29, 1977 at his familys church before he was sent to New York for his first duty station. Six years later, in August 1982, Edward was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Without skipping a beat, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University in 1993.
Edward got to work on some of the most prestigious airplanes in the world. That helped him land a job in Oklahoma in July 1999. After moving to Oklahoma, he purchased his first home, his very first truck and his dream that he and his wife worked together to achieve.
Edwards love of working and creating things to help others was a passion of his, even when he got sick. He wanted to continue to work and never felt like he had a job, but a love of creating to help others. He was an amazing person who could light up your day with his laughter and dry humor. At work and in his personal life, Edward always pushed to get things done that mattered to him. He was always trying to find the shortest possible solution to help neighbors, friends, co-workers and random people he would come across.
Throughout his life, Edward enjoyed teaching what he loved. Sometime in his late 20s and 30s, one of his biggest joys was teaching and going on motorcycle rides with his wife, and then bringing their two children along.
Edward loved camping in the mountains and going fishing and hiking. He liked going to the library to find new ways to do his job better. He enjoyed reading and watching history and Sci-Fi programs. Edward also enjoyed barbequing and playing horseshoes, working on cars and listening to classic rock while drinking his sun tea.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon Carr and Jon Carr; and son, Joseph Edward Carr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Carr; daughter, Justine Marie (Adam) Young; granddaughter, Sylra Isabella Alford; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Carr.
