Obituary

Edna Kliewer was born on a farm near Goltry, Oklahoma on February 2, 1932 to Sam and Lena Schmidt. She loved the farm and often sat by the creek to read a book and dream. She loved school, music, basketball and any chance she had to travel. She attended high school at Oklahoma Bible Academy in Meno. It was there that she first met her future husband Don Kliewer her classmate. After OBA, she attended Grace College in Omaha and then attended Bethel Deaconess where she received her Nursing degree. Don and Edna were married in 1958, after Don finished his military service. Their first son Michael was born in Lincoln in 1960. Several months later Don was transferred to Oklahoma City where their second son Gregory was born in 1961. Edna eventually continued her career in nursing at Baptist Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City. Edna loved the Lord. In 1940, she went to a local revival and received Christ as her Savior. Throughout the summers, she enjoyed sharing the gospel, teaching vacation Bible school, and teaching at the "Go Ye" mission at the School of the Ozarks. She often wrote in her memoirs how much she enjoyed and felt it was an honor to witness to others. This carried over into her adult life. She instilled the importance of church and the Bible to her children and was an active member at Metropolitan Baptist Church for over 50 years. She sang in the choir and worked with the Pioneer Girls for many years. Edna loved nursing. She deeply cared for her patients and genuinely enjoyed helping them. She had a sympathetic ear and would listen to their needs and cares. She was also always ready to share Christ with those that wanted to hear about Him. Many patients often talked about how impactful she was to them. She touch many lives over her 38 years of nursing. She developed and maintained many lifetime friends through her nursing career. She also had the opportunity to travel to China to speak in China cancer hospitals with the People to People program. She was able to balance nursing with being an incredible mom to two rambunctious boys. It was difficult at times but she was able to be exceptional at both. She instructed them, taught them and daily demonstrated how to live a godly life. She was also an awesome cook. One of the favorite memories of the boys was coming home from church to the smell of roast. The meal would always be complemented with perfect mash potatoes and gravy and seasoned green beans. Her banana bread was legendary. She loved doing activities with others. If an activity or group fellowship was offered, she would always try to participate. She just loved being around others and cared deeply for them. If a friend was hurting, she was hurting. That friend was also being added to Ednas prayer list. She was a strong prayer warrior. She was constantly taking the cares, problems, and needs of family and friends before the Lord and laying them at His feet. As her losses and the difficulties of life increased, she relied more and more heavily on the strength and promises of God. She surrounded herself with books and verses that talked about the steadfastness of God and the promises awaiting. She set her sights on Heaven and her hopes and salvation on Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lena Schmidt, her husband, Don Kliewer, and their son, Michael Kliewer. She is survived by Michaels wife, Cathy; son, Gregory (Stacia) Kliewer; their children, Kristen (James) Baird, Kaitlin (Griffin) Radford and Caleb (Ashton) Kliewer; and 4 great-grandchildren.
