Edmund C. Root passed away on Sept. 3, 2021. Born Feb. 8, 1936, in Muncie. IN to Clifton and Effie Root. He grew up in OKC and attended Central High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma and received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering in 1958. Following graduation, he married his sweetheart Mary Ann Macarty and moved to St. Louis, Mo where he went to work for McDonald Douglas on a project called the Mercury Program. The family returned to OKC, where Ed completed his masters degree in mechanical engineering from OCU in 1968. He worked in the aviation industry for Aero Commander, Gulf Stream and finished his career at Tinker Air Force Base where he worked on KC135 Refueling Boom. He retired from Tinker in 1998. Ed enjoyed auto racing, sailing, OU football and woodworking. In 2014, they sold their home and moved to Baptist Village Retirement Center where he lived until shortly before his death. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Root; his parents, Clifton & Effie Root; and granddaughter, Kelsey Lineback. He is survived by his children, Kathi & John Lineback, Huntsville, TX and Jim and Connie Root, OKC, OK; three grandsons, Matt & Leah Lineback, Nick and Kara Lineback and Zach Lineback; and six great-grandchildren, Noah, Jensen, Zane, Karoline, Quinn and Lily. Viewing will be Wednesday, Sept. 8, 9:00am-8:00pm with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Graveside service with burial to follow will be Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10:00 am at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the OKC Alzheimers Association. .
