Obituary

Edgar Josiah Taylor was born to Frank and Violet Taylor in Levant, Maine on September 11, 1925. He was married to Muriel Alice Gray on October 27, 1944 in Effingham, Illinois. They soon moved back to his home state of Maine. Joe and Muriel were married 64 years. Torn between love for his extended family in New England and the severe winters in Maine, Joe moved his family from Maine to California and back again many times traveling the length of Route 66. Can you imagine being the only driver on a 3800 mile trip with four kids in the car And only stopping at two motels He faithfully loved us anyway. Prior to coming to Oklahoma in 2006, Joe and Muriel had resided in California for 35 years. Joe was a carpenter (in the union for 58 years) and built several houses from the ground up including plumbing and electrical. He did the jobs no one else wanted to, such as riding the wrecking ball up to the top of a steeple to join the frame together, working with asbestos, manning the jackhammer (he only weighed 128 pounds, so it was no easy task), or doing a roof in the middle of winter or the heat of the desert. He was not afraid of hard work and taught us the pleasure of doing your very best so you could be proud of your finished work. He certainly proved himself to be a workman who need not be ashamed. No matter which state he worked in, former employers would instantly rehire him. Joe passed away January 19, 2009. While here on earth, he worked hard, loved well, played hard, kept us all laughing with his teasing and infectious laugh, and brightened a lot of peoples day with his cheerful whistling. Like Josiah in the Bible, he had a tender heart. He is survived by his wife, Muriel; sons Edgar J. Taylor, Jr. and wife Sharla, Robert Arthur Taylor and wife Linda, and Peter John Taylor; and two daughters Susan Ann Haase and husband Mitch, and Marilyn June Bader and husband Ted . His grandchildren and great grandchildren are too numerous to mention here, except the ones in attendance today: Samuel Bader and his wife Candice; and Jennifer Bader and her daughter Gypsy. Services will be Saturday, Janauary 24, 10:00 a.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Yukon Cemetery.
