All great stories, even those that we have loved and dog-eared and shed tears over, must come to an end. Earnest L. "Ernie" Malone, devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, great-grandfather, and retired OKC District Fire Chief, went in peace on May 1, 2018, while at home in Oklahoma City, OK. Ernies big story began on May 25, 1928. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School where he met his wife, Dolly A. Malone, and began to blaze through a whole new series of chapters filled with everything from exploring the great outdoors with his boys, fishing, and going to the lake, to braiding his daughters hair. He was truly a jack of all trades. Dolly and Ernie filled page after page together until she passed away in September of 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Jane Malone; his brother, Charles Malone; his wife, Dolly Malone; his son, Randy Malone; his granddaughter, Erin Van Horn; and his great-grandson, Zachary Van Horn. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Powell; his son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Nancy Malone; daughter-in-law, Nancy Elaine Malone; his seven grandchildren, Kelly McWethy, Scott Malone, Lindsay Ballard, Jason Small, Jennifer Perou, Kevin Malone, and Robin Baker; as well as his 13 great-grandchildren, Abbey and Jake Malone, Lauren and Samantha Van Horn, Brynn and Raife Ballard, Addison and Bronson Malone, Scarlett and Sloane Baker, Lucas, Logan and Jordan Small. Ernie will be greatly missed, and all are welcome to attend services on Saturday, May 5, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel, followed by the graveside service at Resthaven. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams.
