Earlyne Smith Gertson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died July 3 in Oklahoma City at age 91. She was born on May 4, 1921 in Dallas, Texas to Earl and Alberta Smith who preceded her in death. Earlyne graduated from Tyler High School and Tyler Commercial College and worked as a secretary for many years in Tyler, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Franklin P. Gertson; three sons and their wives, Franklin Earl and Effie, Oklahoma City, Richard and Gaile, Garland, Texas, Rodney and Susan, Edmond, Oklahoma; her precious grandchildren, Daniel and Kimberly of San Antonio, Texas, Alisha and Meghan of Dallas, Texas, Micah and Jannat of Waltham, Mass., and Nathan and Claire of Springfield, Missouri. Survivors also include three sisters, Jean Anderson Humble, Texas, Doris Gaskins Jacksonville, N.C., and Wanda Hanson, Covington, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. The family retired in Houston, Texas in 1985 and moved to Oklahoma City in 1999. Earlyne loved to travel in their RV and was an active member of several camping clubs. She enjoyed working as a hospital volunteer serving for thirty-one years in the Houston area and in Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital and Mercy Health Center. The funeral service will be held at Village Baptist Church Chapel on Friday, July 6 at 10:30am with family graveside services at Forest Park West, Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday July 7 at 11:00am. A family visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams in Bethany, OK. Memorials may be made to the Village Baptist Church Prayer Garden.
