Obituary

Dwight Edward Neuenschwander was born on April 16, 1930, in Liberal, KS, and peacefully departed this life on March 28, 2017 in Oklahoma City. Son of Eugene and Irene Harless Neuenschwander, siblings included Paul, Clara, Geron, and Virgil. The family also lived western Kansas, the Missouri Ozarks, and southern Texas. Dwight graduated from Bastrop High School in 1948, and then served in the United States Navy and Air Force. In 1950 Dwight married Evonne Striegel of Norman, OK. Their children include Ed and Nancy, and Charles who died in infancy. After a devoted, inseparable marriage of 52 years, Evonne passed in 2003. Dwight later married Eula Mae Stipe of Oklahoma City. In 1956 Dwight graduated from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK. For two decades he pastored congregations in Kansas (Park City, Salina, Wichita) and Colorado (Colorado Springs, Woodland Park). He and Evonne were a ministry team, she as an accomplished musician. In 1968 they joined the faculty of Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs. In 1975 Dwight earned a Masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Dwight and Evonne moved in 1977 to Kansas City for an assignment at Nazarene international headquarters. In 1980 Dwight was appointed the denominations District Superintendent for New Zealand, followed by eleven years as the Superintendent of the Nebraska District. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Mid-America Nazarene University of Olathe, KS in 1992. Dwight enjoyed hands-on projects, including building two houses for family members. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his last months, he often said with calm serenity, "Ive had a good life, no regrets." Every day he authentically lived out the principles of Jesus. He is survived by wife Eula Mae; brother Virgil of Choctaw, OK; son Ed with wife Rhonda of Piedmont, OK; daughter Nancy with husband Mike Howie of Bradleyville, MO; stepson Paul Stipe of Dallas, TX; step-daughter Denise Fitch of Oklahoma City; fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to contribute in Dwights name to Southern Nazarene Universitys foundation for student scholarships. "He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he." -Proverbs 16:20.
