Dr. Kim Jay Tullis went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2020 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Alice Williams Tullis, and his daughter, Patricia Tullis, and her husband, Nathan Yewell. He was born to Dr. Lyle Tullis and Dawn Emery Tullis on May 23, 1954 in Hermiston, Oregon. He was the youngest of three boys that included Dr. Rex Tullis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mr. Ross Tullis of Brooksville, Florida. KJ held a PhD in Management from the University of Arkansas and an MBA from the University of Houston. Prior to his retirement, he served as the Associate Dean for the College of Business at the University of Central Oklahoma. Since 1995 he also served UCO as Professor of Management, Chair of the Department of Management, Assistant Dean and twice as program director.
Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma, KJ held several positions within the Blackmer Division of The Dover Corporation, including worldwide Marketing Manager for the liquefied and compressed gas equipment division.
Those who knew KJ recognized him as a man of many wide and varied talents. He was a consummate mechanic with both gasoline and diesel vehicles and was in the process of a frame off restoration of a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air when illness intervened. He will be greatly missed for his expertise in this area and many others as we all looked to him for advice and diagnosis. It should also be noted that he was a private pilot having his own plane and traveling on business throughout the Southwest United States during his business career.
While he was also a singer and musician playing piano, standard guitar, bass guitar, and banjo, one of his deeper passions was embarking on an annual fishing trip to Flindt Landing Fishing Camp on Heathcote Lake in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. He loved to fish, and the operators of the camp loved to have him come as he always repaired generators and boat motors and provided intriguing company while there.
Kim Jay Tullis will be sorely missed by family and friends. His unassuming style, his sense of humor, his ability to enjoy life, and his humble wisdom made constant impressions on all those who knew him.
