Obituary

Dr. John R. Morton, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2009. He was born to Raymond and Mae Morton in Cameron, Missouri on October 7, 1934. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, teaching and preaching the Word of God. He was pastor at churches in Battiest and Calera, OK, Huron, SD, and Lamar, CO before coming to Springdale Baptist Church where he has been the pastor for the last forty years. John began his education at Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, MO, and then graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. From there he graduated from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and then received his Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice University in Jacksonville, FL. John was chaplain at Danforth Retirement Center and faithfully had services there every Thursday evening for the past 29 years. He loved his Church and Danforth family and was well loved in return. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Morton of the home; six children, Linda Vallejo and husband Jesse of San Angelo, TX, Kathleen Morton and fianc Murray Michael, Searcy, AR, Stephen Morton and wife Jacki of Norman, OK, Todd Potter and wife Jackie of OKC, Traci Wolfe and husband Tim of Moore, OK, and Timothy Potter of Del City, OK; along with 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mae Morton; son David Morton; and first wife, Joyce Morton. Services will be held at Springdale Baptist Church, Wednesday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
