Dr. Jerry D. McKinney went home to meet his maker at 11:57am on Saturday March 13th after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Dr McKinney was pastor of Putnam City Baptist Church for the past 13 years. He was born in Burnsville, NC June 20th, 1944. He attended school in Yancey County and NCSU. After working in Electrical Engineering for 5 years he felt Gods call into the ministry. He went on to Bethany Theological Seminary for his Masters of Divinity and attained his Doctorate of Divinity from Pocomoke Bible Institute. In 1989 Dr. Jerry McKinney satisfied all residence requirements for Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford Graduate School in Religion and Society. Next to God, Jerry loved his family. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Norma, daughter Alicia and husband William and their two daughters, Dora and Allyson of Charlotte, NC, son Jerry Douglas II and wife Paula and their three sons, Douglas, Riley, and Finn of Oklahoma City. Jerry was committed to growing in Christ-likeness, contributing to the building up of the Body of Christ, and functioning as Gods servant in the world. We would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, Dr. Johnny McMinn, Dr. D. Boggs and the nurses at Integris Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at Putnam City Baptist Church March 16, 2010 at 1:00pm. Family will receive friends at the church before and after the service. Memorials may be made to Building Fund of Putnam City Baptist Church. To share a memory or condolence, please visit www.drjerrymckinney.com
