Lloyd Glenn Mac McArthur 1927-2009 Dr. Mac went to be with Jesus peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, January 29, 2009 in Oklahoma City. He was born September 21, 1927 in Carpenter, Oklahoma, the son of Everett Lynn and Mattie Eden Darden McArthur. He met the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Jameson McArthur at Bethany Peniel College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1949. He then attended the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a Masters of Pharmacology in 1953, a PhD in Pharmacology in 1955 and MD in 1957.
He spent five years in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He completed his Residency at the University of Indiana. In 1964 he entered clinical practice at The Arthritis Clinic in Ardmore, Oklahoma where he practiced until his retirement in 2000. He served on the Board of Admissions for the OU College of Medicine for several years.
He exemplified servant leadership at Ardmore First Church of the Nazarene where he served as a Sunday School teacher, church board member and song leader for decades. He also served on the General Board for the International Church of the Nazarene and the Southern Nazarene University Board of Trustees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bobbie Lynn McArthur, and his sister June McArthur Wood. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the home; two brothers Gale McArthur and wife Myrlene of Ponca City and Donnie McArthur and wife Charlene of Waco, Texas; son Robert McArthur and his wife Donna of Norman; daughter Glynna McArthur Poff and husband Doug of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren- Rachel McArthur Weaver and husband Jimmie of Lawrence, Kansas, Sara McArthur Wilson and husband Teddy of Norman, Becca McArthur White and husband Craig of Perkins, Laura, Bryan and Tucker Poff of Oklahoma City and one great-granddaughter Ella Weaver of Lawrence, Kansas.
We wish to thank Bellevue Nursing Center and Autumn Bridge Hospice for their kind and compassionate care over the last 14 months.
A viewing will be held at 7 pm on Friday, January 30 at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany. There will be a second viewing at Ardmore Church of the Nazarene beginning at 9 am Saturday, January 31st. The funeral services will follow at 2 pm. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Southern Nazarene University or Nazarene World Missions.
