Obituary

Dr. Robert Archie Hummel, 75, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2010. As the son of a coal miner, he was born November 4, 1935 in Packard, KY to John and Opsy Hummel. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Inez and June, and brothers Quinton and John. He is survived by his wife Lily; sons Robbie, Chris and Tim Hummel; daughters Elizabeth Mathena and Victoria Wilson; brother W. Palmer Hummel; and 17 grandchildren. He married his bride Lily during medical school and then served as flight surgeon to the US Air Force where he attained the rank of Major. Dr. Hummel moved to Oklahoma in 1969 and founded Hummel Eye Associates where he treated thousands of patients from around the world and was recognized nationally as a pioneer in cataract surgery. He was a board certified ophthalmologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and the A.M.A. Dr. Hummel loved using the skills God gave him to give the gift of sight. He will be remembered by his patients as a kind and gentle physician, by his former employees as a generous servant of God, and by his family as a loving husband and father. Service will be Friday, December 31, 10:00am at St. Marks United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in his name to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of OK or the OK Diabetes Assoc.
