William More Hodgson, 80, passed away on June 4, 2023 in Yukon, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Judy, five children, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will miss his gentle good humor and loyal, loving encouragement.
William was born in Oklahoma City on January 9, 1943. William and his brother, Larry, became the adopted sons of Joe Hodgson as young boys when their mother Louise married Joe. A younger sister, Nancy, completed the family of five. The family lived in Beaumont, Texas for many years, then moved to Oklahoma City where William completed his high school education at Classen High School.
William graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1965. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1969. In 1971 he completed a Master of Science degree in pediatric dentistry from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He practiced dentistry in Oklahoma City until his retirement.
William married Star Polk in 1961 and together they had three children, Todd, Heather and Kelly. He went on to remarry in 1988 when he met Judy, who brought three more childrenCari, Shari and Stepheninto the family. William and Judy enjoyed nearly 35 years of marriage. It was "a marriage made in heaven," as William declared.
"Grandpa Billy" loved spending time with his family, traveling and creating stained glass art pieces. His creativity, humor and intelligence were evident in every pursuit.
William was preceded in death by his parents; beloved son, Kelly Hodgson; and grandson, Colton Cox. He is survived by his wife Judy Hodgson; his brother, Larry and wife Monsi Hodgson; sister, Nancy and husband Rich Thompson; son, Todd and wife Nancy Hodgson; daughter, Heather Cox; daughter-in-law, Melissa Hodgson; daughter, Cari Berlin and husband Gary; daughter, Shari Zimmerman and husband Gene; and son, Stephen Metz-Lago and husband Rudy.
William is survived by ten much-adored grandchildren: Christian Cox, Claire Cox, Hannah Hodgson, Evan Hodgson, Tugg Hodgson, Angela DeLong, Tessa Phillips, Cordelia Smith, Alexandra Holmes, and Austin Metz-Lago.
An informal gathering of friends and family is planned for Thursday evening, June 8, 2023 at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N Asbury in Bethany, OK from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A graveside memorial service will be conducted on Friday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway in Oklahoma City.
