Obituary

Dovie Imogene (Penny) Westbrook, 85, of OKC, passed away with dignity and grace on September 15, 2011. She was born February 25, 1926, in Manitou, Okla., to James Erskin and Ella Florence Pendergrass. She married Styles Levert (S.L.) in 1947 and they had one daughter, Pamela Alice. She worked at Tinker Field for many years as a supervisor and an item manager until she retired. Upon retirement, Penny and S.L. moved to Orlando, Florida, where she made many new friends and prospered. Her passion was helping raise her grandson, Scott. She was completely involved in his life, from sponsoring school outings to cheering him on in Tae Kwon Do. After S.L. died in 2001, she moved back to OKC to be with her family here. She reestablished her friendships with her Tinker friends, spent glorious years hanging out with her sisters, and being her daughters best friend. Penny and Pam were a dynamic duo and spent as much time as possible together. Penny joined Mayflower Congregational Church and immediately got involved with their homeless ministry, 363. She was the salad maker extraordinaire every other Saturday for the last ten years. She loved to laugh and never took herself too seriously. Her smile was infectious and her ability to love everyone unconditionally was astounding. She was always gracious and kind. She was continually on the go, and didnt really care where the going took her as long as she could go! She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers, Elzie and Frank Pendergrass, and 2 sisters, Beatrice Huff and Freda Futrell. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Westbrook; her grandson, Scott Sutherland and his wife Berlande; 2 great grandchildren, Isaiah and Lucas Sutherland; two sisters, Nellie Futrell and Olga Farley; and many nieces and nephews who were very special to her and whom she loved dearly. Memorials may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church, 363 Mission, 3901 N.W. 63rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, at 11 a.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church, OKC. Services are under the direction of Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK.
