Obituary

Douglas Wayne Scheiern was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Margaret and Glen Scheiern on September 7, 1955. He grew up as a pastor's kid in Michigan, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. His senior year of high school he moved to Bethany and began taking college classes concurrently at Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) while completing his high school degree. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Neel Scheiern on December 20, 1974. This year would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. He earned his Bachelor's degree at Bethany Nazarene College in Business in May 1978. He was a hard-working and engaged husband and father, as well as a roofer, dear friend, and faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He reached out to those in his church by hosting events in his home, cooking at pork-fest for the college department, being actively involved in the Lifelifters Sunday school class, weekly preparing coffee, and taking command at home to allow his wife to be a sponsor on youth trips. He played with his kids throughout their lives, taking them on bike rides, building a tree-house in the backyard and putting up a zip-line. He was ever-fearless: riding bikes, motorcycles, and rollerblades, as well as scuba diving, bungee jumping, and parasailing. He passed away in his home at age 58 on the afternoon of August 31, 2014 being tended by his loving wife. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Scheiern, mother-in-law, Barbara Neel, and grandson, Caleb Scheiern. He leaves behind his father, Glen Scheiern and wife Mary; father-in-law, Perry Neel; younger sister, Daneille Eggleston and husband Craig; and his wife, Nancy Scheiern; as well as his children, Krista Hands and husband Jeff and children Temesgen, Lelise, Abigail and Elias, Ginger Montgomery and husband Tony and children Colton, Madelyn and Harper, and Chris Scheiern and wife Stephanie and children Mason and Diana. His funeral service will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39st Expressway, Bethany, OK at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 5.
