Obituary

Dorothy Jean Myers passed away August 19, 2025, in Bethany, OK. She was born in Harrah, OK on January 7, 1929 to Fred and Agnes Kutin. She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1947 and attended business school. In the early 60's she moved to Bethany, residing there the rest of her life.

Dorothy married George S. Myers, Jr. on March 15, 1947. They had 48 years of love and devotion that made a wonderful life together. God blessed their marriage with four loving children who filled their hearts with joy.

Dorothy worked outside the home for a few years and assisted her husband with his commercial photography business. She then volunteered for several years at Bethany Hospital. Dorothy was a published poet in the book "Women's War Memoirs" by Rosemary Echroat Bachle.

Dorothy won five Golden Poet Awards in succession and five honorable mention awards. She was inducted into the prestigious Honor Society of International Poets. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women and looked forward to the monthly luncheons and meeting with her fellow writers.

Dorothy enjoyed being outside and working in her yard. She loved sewing, crocheting, and feeding the birds. She attended church at B.C. Clark United Methodist Church and St. Marks United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She adored her little dog, Stardust and sweet cat, Ginger. Dorothy never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Myers, Jr.; son, George S. Myers, III; father, Fred Kutin; mother, Agnes Shuford; and brothers, Ray Kutin and Sam Shuford.

She is survived by daughters, Cindy Burnside and husband Allen, Georgene Covey and husband Mike, Edie Farley and husband Robert Kim; grandson, Sean Farley and wife Emily; great-granddaughter, Addison Farley; nieces, Deborah Bates and husband Alan, Gloria Dale, Samantha Wilson and husband Nick Sampson; and nephew, Kenny Shuford and wife Kathy.

Memorial service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, 1:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel located at 3925 N. Asbury Ave, Bethany, OK 73008 with inurnment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N. W. Expy, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
