Obituary

Dorothy L. Corley passed away on August 8, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born March 30, 1937 in Hayes, Kansas.

Dorothy was active and outgoing. She was involved in her church, participating in the choir and Bible study classes. She was a bookkeeper by profession and sold Avon to help support her family. She volunteered at her children's schools when they were young.

She became more active as a volunteer when her grandchildren entered school. Dorothy and her husband, Jerry, both chauffeured the grandkids around as needed. When her daughter, Katherine, taught at an alternative school, Dorothy would volunteer her time to help out in the office and library. Katherine's students loved seeing her. One time, the students decided to complain to Dorothy about Katherine giving them too much homework, so Dorothy promised to ground her for the weekend.

Once retired, Dorothy went all in with her Avon business. She attended many Avon conferences, maintained a booth at a flea market and used Avon as a tool to get into the door of various nursing homes. She would give hand massages and facials to some of the residents. At holidays she would give out little gifts to help make each resident feel special.

When Alzheimer's started creeping in, Dorothy started spending more time at home. She could no longer keep up with her Avon business and the nursing home visits stopped.

Dorothy had a best friend named Helen Delaney. Before Alzheimer's, Dorothy and Helen would get together a couple of times each week. They would go see a movie, play cards and go out to lunch. They ate at Cattlemen's most Sundays. After Alzheimer's, Helen helped out some days by providing companionship. She would spend hours with Dorothy. Sometimes she would take Dorothy to her home and they would spend the day together. Dorothy and Helen had a true and special friendship. The family will always be grateful that Dorothy had a friend like Helen Delaney.

As Dorothy progressed with Alzheimer's, the family could no longer take care of her, so she went to Emerald Care Southwest Nursing Home, where she spent her last years. Even at the nursing home, she made an impression on the staff and residents. She liked to call everyone Grandma or Grandpa. She became known as everyone's Grandma.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gerald Corley; her children, Katherine Walker, Roy Walker and wife Kathy, and Cindy Lindsey and husband Raymond; her grandchildren, Nina Pickett and husband Kelly, Christina Highley and husband Morgan, and Elyse Walker; and her great-grandchildren, Shea Pickett, Camden Pickett, Isaiah Highley, and Elijah Highley.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Katie Riggs Wert; her birth father, Charles Tift; and her adopted father, Thomas B. Riggs.
